Health & Wellness
Health and Wellness: Holistic Support for Survivors and Families at Dekomforter Resource Foundation At Dekomforter Resource Foundation (DRF), we believe that true healing begins with a comprehensive approach that addresses both physical and emotional well-being. Our health and wellness programs are designed to support domestic violence survivors, children in crisis, and low-income families in Cook and Lake counties as they rebuild their lives and work toward self-sufficiency.
Why Health and Wellness Matter
Survivors of domestic violence and families in crisis often face significant physical and emotional challenges. The trauma from abuse, instability, or financial hardship can lead to long-lasting effects on mental health, physical health, and overall well-being. That’s why DRF is committed to offering holistic health and wellness services that address the full spectrum of needs, including:
- Mental health support: Providing resources to counseling and therapy for survivors of trauma, stress, and emotional abuse.
- Physical health resources: Connecting individuals and families to medical services and wellness programs that improve overall health and well-being.
- Emotional well-being: Offering group support and personal development programs to promote healing and resilience.
Mental Health Counseling
Mental health is a crucial aspect of recovery, particularly for survivors of domestic violence who have experienced significant emotional and psychological trauma. At DRF, we offer:
- Individual counseling: One-on-one sessions with licensed therapists to help survivors process trauma, rebuild their confidence, and develop coping mechanisms.
- Group therapy: Peer support groups where survivors can share their experiences in a safe, supportive environment, fostering community and mutual healing.
- Children’s mental health services: Specialized counseling for children affected by trauma, helping them process their emotions and regain a sense of stability.
Physical Health and Wellness
For many survivors and families in crisis, maintaining physical health can be difficult when dealing with the stress of housing instability or financial hardship. DRF works to provide:
- Access to healthcare services: We partner with local health providers to ensure survivors and families have access to medical care, including routine check-ups, emergency care, and specialized health services.
- Health education and wellness programs: We offer workshops and resources on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and preventative care, empowering individuals to take charge of their physical health.
Promoting Emotional Resilience
The journey to recovery requires more than just physical and mental health support—it also requires emotional resilience. DRF helps survivors and families rebuild their self-worth and emotional strength through:
- Personal development workshops: Programs that focus on life skills, personal growth, and self-care, helping individuals develop a positive mindset and a sense of empowerment.
- Stress management and relaxation techniques: Classes and activities that teach relaxation methods, mindfulness, and stress reduction to promote emotional well-being and healing.
